I think Steam will be optional, like Trackmania currently is.

I already have the game, but I see plus and minus's to this. I got Il2 sturmovik on steam, and that was annoying to patch for updates due to being incorporated in steam and some missing folders (but IL2 was a royal pain regardless, but o so worth it). So if it becomes steam only, then updates through steam could become the only option. IDK, maybe im wrong.
BUT! then they could maybe take advantage of some of the multiplayer functionality....
Also, why not just add Drive to your games list in steam?

Trackmania 2 is on Steam, and it updates through the game itself, I don't see many issues with it, other than it not updating itself after leaving it idle for a while, but that's all I can really see.
Car skins and tracks are available through Steam Workshop, in game, or other third party websites.

Gotcha. The IL2 game stopped updating via steam like 5 or 6 years ago or something, so you buy the game on there, but you have to then download patches elsewhere and update via that avenue to even play online.
I had the trackmania nations (iirc) on steam and never realized it was also an off steam game. interesting. Fun game for a while.

Awesome, I already have it, but more power to those guys! Wait, where do you get those rally mods?

If you were a fan of Rigs of Rods, you'll love this. The devs of RoR started from the ground up and put the code into a new engine.

They also said that you can activate your code on Steam once it's up there, I did the same for TM2.
